Real Estate is a hot topic in Jersey City - it’s clear that it’s moving in an upward trajectory. Real estate agents working in Jersey City support clients with different needs - people moving here, to people moving from one area in Jersey City to another, to new buildings, or to houses being restored. We will be talking with real estate agents from the area to get their perspective on the city and what we all need to know about this real estate market.
We sat down with our neighbor, Michelle Mumoli, a Jersey City Heights resident and a local realtor. She is lead of The Mumoli Group and part of KW City Life JC. She shares her passion for the arts, giving back, and of course the real estate market.
Why did you decide to become a real estate agent and how long have you been one?
I had experience with helping my parents manage the buildings they owned in Newark and I had been in the arts since I graduated from NJCU and just decided I wanted to provide the kind of service I had not experienced while getting to meet new people and network, that’s my favorite part of my job. I love seeing clients’ eyes light up when things come together for them. I’ve been a Realtor for 4 ½ years now and now I’m growing my team to be able to handle all of my clients with the same personalized customer service.
You live in the heights and a lot of your business is here, but you also work in all of NJ.
I do live in the heights, 99% of business is referral business, so it comes from past clients and friends everywhere. I think it comes naturally for people to gravitate to their local expert when they are looking for an agent, but I work all of NJ. I have relocated folks from Downtown JC to South Orange, Maplewood, Montclair, Glen Ridge, West Orange, and help relocate people here and from here through my referral partnerships with other top agents all over the world.
Why do you think it’s important to really know the area you are showing to your clients?
I teach a class at the brokerage called Know Your Market, because if you don’t know where and what you are selling, how will you be able to provide the best service for your clients?
You are active in the community as well - can you share what you do?
I’m pretty active in the community, as I write this I’m putting the last touches on our annual community event at Keller Williams, RED DAY. We are beautifying Sgt Anthony Park in the Heights. I support the arts as well, as it is where I came from.
What makes Jersey City special in the real estate market?
Ahhhh Jersey City! I love this city. I’ve been here since 2003 and I honestly cannot compare it to any city in the world. It’s incredibly diverse and vibrant; every area has something special and unique about it and of course the history and architecture! There is something for everyone here in every price point. It is also a great investment for anyone because it’s constantly growing. Being NYC’s neighbor helps that aspect of investment - a home is an investment no matter what price point. So the accessibility to get into and around NYC is excellent for everyone.
What advice do you have to people looking to buy or rent in jersey city?
The most important thing is for buyers, sellers, and renters to know is that in a state like NJ they should pay no mind to zillow, trulia, or realtor.com. They have terrible algorithms so the “zestimates” are way off. They also aren’t as quick as the market moves. A website cannot negotiate on their behalf and it’s better to have a third party who is a professional with a license and does it for a living, than attempting to go through all the negotiations and hurdles on their own. (They will end up with a Realtor, the hard way.) Once they move here, take part in cultivating the community and taking advantage of all the awesome cultural events that go on here, it’s so important for people to know what happens, what is going to happen and to get involved.
