Stay Local For a Low Stress, Low Cost Holiday Vacation

February 9, 2018

Finding ways to balance work, life and budgets can be extremely difficult in today's fast-paced world.  If you live in the densely populated Northeast mid-Atlantic region, you are likely trying to balance the high cost of living with the technological challenges that come from living in dwellings built pre-1980s.  The good news is that finding that balance is possible for almost anyone.

Taking It To The Streets

Enhance your life by finding ways to escape locally. Exotic destinations appeal to our imagination in ways that things easily within our reach simply don’t, but that’s not to say they are actually better, especially for those on a budget. For anyone willing to stop and smell the roses in your own backyard, there’s a world of wonder all around just waiting for you to take advantage. If you have to get out of town to feel like you are on vacation, you can keep costs in check by opting for a road trip.

If you live in the Jersey City area, even a weekend is enough to get the stress out in a really cool destination on a shoestring budget. Within just two hours of the city you’ll find massive amounts of culture, history, nature and a myriad of exciting things. Consider five options that require a drive of two hours or less:

  1. New York, New York - Maybe you have “been there, done that,” but in such a lively and dynamic city there is no chance you have done it all. The best part is that it is just a short trip across the Hudson River. Check out museums, shopping, theater and sightseeing tours.

  2. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - History abounds in the City of Brotherly Love. It is a great place to have fun and learn at the same time, especially if you will have kids in tow.

  3. Adirondack Park, New York - Unlike most state or federal preservation lands, more than half of the park is privately owned, making it one of the most unique ecological experiments in the country.

  4. Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania - The Poconos offer a diverse experience for families who may want to venture off to different sights such as resorts, cultural experiences, gambling, racing, skiing or camping.

  5. Atlantic City, New Jersey - With its world-famous boardwalk, those looking for a beach experience should look no further than this well-known city.

These are just a few of the options that can provide an experience to remember at a cost you can afford. Regardless of where you live, establishing a radius and doing a little research will help you find your own nearby gems.
