Top 5 JCAST Events You Won’t Want to Miss!

JCAST 2017 is upon us! The Jersey City Art and Studio Tour has been around for 27 years and each year features more emerging art spaces and vibrant local talent. This year includes over 150 galleries, artist studios, museums, and some non-traditional venues as well. Here are 5 top events you’ll want to plan your weekend around!

Pro Tip: Mack-Cali is providing free parking at the URBY parking lot across from Harborside Atrium for the kickoff party on Friday Oct 13th and throughout the weekend. JCAST 2017 Kickoff Celebration

Friday, October 13, 6-9 PM

Come celebrate the beginning of JCAST with live music, Virtual Reality entertainment, interactive installations, and more! Be sure to swing by the Pro Arts Gallery there at 7:30 for the “Buying art with Confidence” panel discussion featuring members of the Jersey City Arts Council. Look for the TOUR banner for more info on shuttle bus stops and guided tours. With 64 shuttle stops, you’ll be able to explore parts of Jersey City you may not have been to before!

Puerto Rico Benefit concert: We Are Here For You

Enjoy, live music, live painting, art raffles, and DJs while taking in art from JC’s best street artists. Help hurricane recovery efforts by leaving a $20 suggested donation towards Puerto Rico Aid via Jersey City Council Member-At-Large Daniel Rivera. This is a great way to meet local artists and supportive neighbors in a low-key environment. It’s sure to be full of great vibes.

The Vogue Ball with Hudson Pride Connections

Voguing was around long before Madonna! In honor of National Coming Out Day, the annual Vogue Ball features youth from around the city competing in this fierce, high-energy dance form. There’s no cover, but you’ll be able to donate to the Hudson Pride Center so they can continue their amazing work with LGBTQ youth. (Extra Credit: check out the documentary Paris Is Burning for more about this dance genre and the Golden Age of NYC drag balls.)

Magnolia Landing Popup Market

Magnolia Landing is a community plaza near the Journal Square PATH and on Sunday you can find Marketplace JC presenting their last popup market for 2017! Live music provides the soundtrack for local artists, artisans, chefs, makers, and more. Take home some treasures from this family-friendly event.

Performance Installation and Interactive Labyrinth

Get into the art! Shuaspace will feature an interactive labyrinth by Katelyn Halpern and a performance installation by Joe Monteleone as well as paintings & photos depicting Jersey City.
