Run the Harborside

I train with Jesse Barton every week, so I finally decided to go to Run the Harborside that she co-runs along with David Troitta of Whealth & Co. Run the Harborside started over last year, when Dave and Jesse finally met after chatting on Instagram for some time. They “bro-ed’ out over their love of Jersey City and both happen to live in Lafayette and obviously love The Grind Coffee shop.

What is Run the Harborside? It is a run led by Jesse that takes place along the Exchange Place and Harborside Cove. After the run, Jesse leads a beautiful meditation session and then Dave and his team provide delicious food. The run starts off with an energy activating stretch. I am not much of a runner so I did walk, run, sprints with Annie, a self-employed consultant who also happens to be Dave’s fiancé. We made our own little workout while the majority of the group ran ahead; they went all the way down to the Colgate Clock.

After, we had a post-workout stretch and did some partnering stretches. Surprisingly, this helped with balance and you also got to know your partner better. Then we went inside for a ten minute meditation. This was so calming and relaxing and while some of us opened our eyes we all had a restful respite after a workout in the sun.

Then onto the food… IT IS AMAZING!

Whealth & Co tries to source all their food locally and we know they get their meat from Nature’s Own Farms, which sells at the Riverview Farmers Market and comes to Jersey City Heights in the winter every two weeks. We had a delicious chicken dish with veggies. The coffee was delicious as it is Kobrick’s Coffee located in Jersey City as well.

All of this costs a whopping $15.

The people who come to workout are a diverse group focused on living a healthy life. One of the participants loves yoga, another makes leather goods, and one is a model. We spoke to a few of the other participants:

Kalvin found Run the Harborside through another maker friend, Turnstyle Art. Kalvin owns Arjen Supply making cool leather goods and is also obsessed with motorcycles.

Bella has been following Whealth & Co for a while and saw they were doing runs. She decided to start following Jesse and then made the leap to come. She loves doing local things! We also know her from our hike last year with Live More Adventures. Bella is also a beautiful facepaint artist.

Gabby loves starting her day with the run - “it brings together all the things I like - yoga, running, meditation, and healthy food. This event felt like it was created for me. And while as much as I love sleeping in and don’t like getting up on the weekend, this gets me up and out. It is nice to switch it up.”

Amanda really enjoys the social aspect and fitness - “I get to meet other like-minded individuals and the food is really yummy.”

It is super easy to get to the run as it is right next to the Exchange Place path and the Harborside light rail. If interested in joining, please RSVP (to email Jesse click here) so they know to let you in as Whealth & Co is located in Harborside 3 at the entrance by the path.
