Project Market - Eating Our Way Through the Weekend

December 3-4th was Project Market put on by The Jersey City Project. It is a HUGE indoor market located behind City Hall with food vendors and great artisan and local Jersey City Vendors. This was my first time at the winter market and I just couldn’t leave. 

According to their website, Project Market, “acts as a kick-off to the holiday shopping season highlighting local, celebrating seasonal, and encouraging economic growth amongst small businesses. Melding an old-world bazaar aesthetic with elements from popular culture, the market is not unlike the downtown area where it’s located – a burgeoning neighborhood rich with history and ripe with new development.”  They put on a number of markets around City Hall and bring together all of Jersey City because we all love to support our local businesses as they say above. 

 

There were lots of local favorites and some new vendors I have not seen at the local markets and fairs. So being me, I decided to schmooze with all the businesses I could.  They explained to me this is a great event for them; it allows new customers to find them as well as build the trust with those with devoted followings. They make sure we feel welcome and understand their product like Outer Limits Hot Sauce who really spends the time to talk about their product and of course taste it.  Or LOVE Furniture, who upcycle designs to bring us new and fresh furniture.  I communicated with on Instagram and I made sure to say hello.  And I can’t forget the owner of Thirsty Quaker, Kendall, with his amazing Christmas suit from Macy's making him stand out. 

 

And to shout out Busy Bee Organics who said “I know you” and then I proceeded to give her a big hug. They made the s'mores hot chocolate, which was a weekend sensation. We communicate now with people through social media so much that I feel like I know someone before I meet them.  Making this face to face connection is huge. When I told her I can’t eat most of their food due to allergies, her response was, “We will have to find something that works for you!” (Note: My friends at House of Gains had a vegetarian “poke” bowl that I couldn’t eat either and they said we will have get one to you too! I can not stress relationship building enough.)

 

Below is a list of what we eat and purchased.  While there were so many vendors and couldn’t buy from all, we tried to stop at almost every booth. Big shout out to Mickey Mathis for sharing his photos with me.
