Stick Your Feet in the Sand Close to Home
One hot summer day, my boyfriend and I were looking for something to do. His cousin suggested we go to this park along the waterfront in the Newport section of Jersey City that had a closed off area with sand. So we decided to go in search of this because I honestly didn't think it existed. I mean I've lived in Hudson County for over 20 years and I had never heard of it. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised to be wrong. It wasn't just a kids sandbox as I thought but rather a man made sandy beach.
As a photographer, I'm always on the lookout for places where I can have my photoshoots. The Newport Beach not only provides great views of the NYC skyline as well as the Hoboken/Jersey City waterfront and it is located inside the park called the Newport Green, which also has a botanical garden, carousel, kids play park, and patio & picnic areas. This is basically a photographer's dream. And its location is super convenient since it is so close to the Hoboken and Newport light rail stations. Now, instead of driving two hours in traffic to go to the Jersey Shore, I can just hop on the light rail and 16 minutes later I've arrived at my destination (goodbye road rage).
The Newport Beach is more than just a convenient photo shoot locale for me. It's become a sanctuary; my go to happy place. I feel so much peace and serenity there. As a mother of 9 year old triplet boys, it’s a place to unwind and become one with nature. But it isn’t just a place to get away and meditate for a bit, it’s also great for meetups with friends, to have a romantic day out with your significant other, or a place to take the kids for a bit to play. So if you haven't had the pleasure of going there, you should do so as soon as possible. Believe me you won't regret it!
